Insulation: Foam Board, Rigid Board

Foam Board or Rigid Board/ Rigid Foam

Greenguard Product Emission Standard LogoIdeal for insulating basement walls and crawl spaces, Foam Board (aka "Rigid Board" or "Rigid Foam") insulation provides quality insulation for heat/cool efficiency as well as soundproofing benefits.

Rigid foam insulation typically is more expensive than fiber insulation. But it's very effective in buildings with space limitations and where higher R-values are needed. Foam insulation R-values range from R-4 to R-6.5 per inch of thickness, which is up to 2 times greater than most other insulating materials of the same thickness.

Rigid foam usually contains hundreds of millions of densely packed air cells to provide exceptional thermal performance. It is virtually impervious to moisture, preventing loss of R-value due to moisture penetration. It can be scored and snapped, cut, or sawed with common tools. Sagging and settling are never a problem.

There are also a number of house siding products being used that incorporate foam board insulation into the siding itself.
